It all begins in childhood: through our relationships with adults, we learn what it means to be close to another person, how to express and receive love. Sometimes our “lessons in closeness” are strange, sometimes harsh — and we draw conclusions accordingly. Then we take these lessons with us into life.
Even when we deeply want to do things differently, we often find ourselves in relationships that bring the same familiar pain from childhood. How does this happen? Why do we get stuck in repeating patterns?
What conclusions about love did we form in childhood, and how do they shape our lives today? Is it possible to break this cycle and learn how to build healthy relationships? Let’s explore how our attachment experiences define whom and how we love today.
Lyudmila Petranovskaya is a family psychologist and the author of renowned books such as The Secret Support: Attachment in a Child’s Life, When It’s Hard with a Child, Selfmama: Lifehacks for a Working Mom, and others. She has many years of experience working with adoptive families, consulting parents, and leading workshops for professionals.
After the lecture, there will be a Q&A session. You will also have the opportunity to purchase and sign the author’s books.
The lecture will be held in Russian in Seattle on June 6 at 7:00 PM at The Wyncote NW Forum, Town Hall Seattle.
