Town Hall Seattle and Known Wishes present
With Wendy Norman and Cassandra Sutherland
EVENT NOTES
Doors for this event will open at 5:30 PM. Town Hall events are approximately 75 minutes long.

Medical Aid in Dying is one of the most talked‑about — and most misunderstood — end‑of‑life options. This session cuts through the noise with clear, accessible facts about what the law allows, who qualifies, and how the process actually works. Join Wendy Norman, Founder of Known Wishes, and Cassandra Sutherland, Co-Executive Director of End-of-Life Washington, as they debunk the most common myths, from eligibility misconceptions to fears about misuse, so participants leave with confidence, clarity, and a grounded understanding of this deeply personal choice.
Known Wishes is a not-for-profit end-of-life education and awareness organization. Their consultants have over a century of collective experience. They are retired doctors, nurses, hospice and medical/healthcare/business professionals. Their organization provides guidance on all end-of-life decisions to consider and resources available to the public, but does not provide formal financial, medical or legal services such as signing a POLST or creating a Last Will & Testament. While payment for their consulting time is welcome, it is never required or expected.
Wendy Norman has been researching and engaging with end-of-life issues for over 15 years. Wendy’s interest was sparked by her mother’s diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2006. This is when she learned how important it is to have a plan before becoming ill, especially when cognitive decline is involved. Wanting to help others understand the value of pre-planning, Wendy became an end-of-life planning consultant in 2017. In 2019, she left a 25-year career in marketing and program management to invest her time and energy toward end-of-life planning, education and awareness. In 2020, she helped create and lead a team of volunteers to launch an education and awareness program called End of Life Ready hosted by End of Life Washington. Building on that experience, Known Wishes was created to broaden and deepen end-of-life education.
Cassandra Sutherland, Co-Executive Director, End-of-Life Washington (she/they) is a long-time supporter of autonomy and choice. She holds degrees in Global Public Health and International Studies and has worked at End-of-Life Washington (EOLWA) since 2020. Cassa’s involvement with EOLWA is a result of supporting her father as he faced dementia and was making his own end-of-life decisions. She is passionate that everyone has information and access to end-of-life care — and is consistently in awe of the courage and fortitude of those who show up. Outside of her work, Cassa spends most of her time outdoors and with loved ones.
