Town Hall Seattle presents
Church, State, and Civic Action
EVENT NOTES
Doors for this event will open at 6:30 PM. Town Hall events are approximately 75 minutes long.

Congressman Jared Huffman and attorney Skye Perryman come to Town Hall Seattle for a conversation about their new books, No Prophets (Huffman) and Ordinary People, Extraordinary Times (Perryman), joined in discussion by Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal. Together, they will explore the shocking extent of Christian nationalism’s reach in our government, and the everyday choices citizens can make to speak up and protect our future.
Drawing on their distinct experiences in government and law, Huffman and Perryman examine issues including the separation of church and state, democratic institutions, and civic participation. Their discussion will consider how these topics intersect with current political and legal debates, as well as the ways individuals can take action in their own communities.
Jared Huffman is a Humanist and the only member of Congress to admit he does not believe in gods. He founded the Congressional Freethought Caucus with Congressman Jamie Raskin to promote sound public policy based on reason, science, and moral values. He lives in San Rafael, California.
Skye Perryman, president & CEO of Democracy Forward and a TIME 100 honoree, is a nationally recognized attorney and leader advancing democracy and individual rights. Under her leadership, Democracy Forward has secured major court victories protecting healthcare, education, and reproductive freedom.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal represents Washington’s 7th Congressional District, which encompasses most of Seattle and its surrounding areas. She is the first and only South Asian American woman ever elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and one of just two dozen naturalized citizens currently in Congress.
Presented by Town Hall Seattle.
