On November 5, our election season programming culminates with two simultaneous events: Election Night 2024 and Reading Through It. Read on to hear from Programming Manager James Kuhn as he shares the inside scoop on these two timely events.
There are certain evenings at Town Hall when our building feels alive and full of possibility, with people from all walks of life gathering for events downstairs, upstairs, and in between. When thinking about what Election Night at Town Hall Seattle would look like, our programming team had a few goals in mind:
- Share that alive, electric feeling with our community
- Create an environment where you can find connection during a historic moment
- Provide diverse experiences and outlets that honor the complex feelings that bubble up during election season
Whether you’re looking ahead to November 5 with hope, curiosity, anxiety, concern, or a mix of all the above, Election Night at Town Hall holds something for everyone. And the best part? You don’t have to choose. Attendees are welcome and encouraged to flow between both events!
Is your phone blowing up with notifications? Feeling the itch to be in the know with the latest updates and analysis? Join us downstairs in the Wyncote NW Forum, in partnership with Real Change, for Election Night 2024: a free and interactive election viewing event like no other in Seattle. Comedian and cartoonist Brett Hamil will host an evening of panel discussion, live analysis, comedy and satire, and audience Q&A with journalists from the International Examiner, South Seattle Emerald, The Urbanist, and The Needling. Attendees will have a behind-the-scenes glimpse of independent election coverage as the evening unfolds. Engage with the election as it’s happening and find camaraderie and connection to others during a … let’s face it … stressful time. We’ll fire up the big screens, take in the exclusive political insights, and maybe even laugh a little!
If the thought of watching real-time results makes you shudder, join us upstairs for a refreshing change of pace. In partnership with Hinton Publishing, we’ll come together for Reading Through It, a literary alternative to election coverage for those who wish to focus on the power of art, community, and action, regardless of the election’s outcome. Hosted by writer Katie Lee Ellison, we’ll hear from six incredible literary voices including Town Hall favorites Angela Garbes and Marcus Harrison Green, Washington State Poet Laureate Rena Priest, Juan Carlos Reyes, Jordynn Paz, and Lena Khalaf Tuffaha. Alongside the readings, local organizations will be on hand to discuss how we can stay engaged and join ongoing efforts for justice and equality. Reading Through It is for anyone who believes that art can sow seeds of change that endure beyond a single political moment.
Whether you’re seeking comfort, inspiration, action, or community, we’ve got you covered with Election Night at Town Hall. We are excited to see you on November 5! Attendees are welcome and encouraged to flow between both events. Both events offer free admission, but advance registration is strongly encouraged due to capacity.
