COVID-19 Policies

Updated 9/6/2022

Beginning September 15, 2022, masking by all patrons, presenters, and employees is no longer required for Town Hall-produced events. Rental partners may continue to require masking for their events. Please check individual rental partner guidelines before attending any event.

Town Hall Seattle strongly encourages all audience members to continue to wear a mask over their nose and mouth except when eating or drinking. We ask that all audience members be respectful of each other’s choices.

Town Hall Seattle is continually assessing the changing guidelines and local government updates. We reserve the right to require health and safety protocols for all performances.  We will proactively communicate any change in health protocols with advance notice.

If you feel sick, have tested positive for COVID-19, or have any of the following symptoms we request that you do not attend any performances:

  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Trouble breathing
  • Fever or chills
  • Loss of smell or taste


For the 2023-24 season Town Hall will be livestreaming a limited number of events; if a ticket holder feels uncomfortable attending an in-person event that will also be livestreamed, they may request a livestream ticket by emailing our team at If an event is changed from in-person to digital only, ticket holders will be notified by email with information about how to access the digital event. Otherwise, our standard ticket policies apply for event changes and cancellations.

If your ticket was not purchased through Town Hall Seattle (in the case of certain rental events), please contact the organization directly for their ticketing policies and information.


We will operate with 100% seating capacity in the Great Hall and in the Forum. Town Hall reserves the right to keep the first three rows of seating vacant in order to widen the distance between (potentially unmasked) onstage performers and the audience. Physical distancing in the audience is encouraged but not required.

Town Hall has put into place a number of building improvements and maintenance:

  • The Town Hall building has a new (2019), modern HVAC system that incorporates increased air circulation and improved fresh air intake.
  • Filters throughout the building have been upgraded to MERV-13s and are replaced on a regular maintenance schedule.
  • As many internal doors as possible will remain open throughout the venue.
  • Touch-free hand sanitizer stations are installed at the entrances and hand sanitizer dispensers are located throughout the facility.
  • In addition to an increase in routine cleaning and sanitizing, door knobs, crash bars, bathroom doors, faucets, and other hard surfaces are sanitized regularly.


Town Hall has protocols in place to follow CDC and King County quarantining guidelines if staff have symptoms of COVID-19, test positive for COVID-19 or are exposed to someone with COVID-19. All performers and patrons are asked to do the same to reduce the spread of COVID-19.


We are excited at the chance to host you in Town Hall Seattle, in a spirit of care and safety. Our staff maintains and refreshes these guidelines regularly, in accordance with CDC and State recommendations and with guidance from a local public health expert. All speakers, performers, and patrons must agree to defer to Town Hall staff in upholding the guidelines.

Town Hall General Building Policies

Our policies are designed to support everyone’s safety at Town Hall, and our community code of conduct aims to help everyone feels welcome, included, and able to take part in our collective creativity and conversations.

Building Policies:

  • Town Hall is on privately owned property; firearms and weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited regardless of licenses or permits.
  • In accordance with Washington state law RCW 70.160, Town Hall is a non-smoking facility and the use of tobacco products, vaporizers, or e-cigarettes are prohibited. 
  • Service animals are welcome at Town Hall; pets and other animals are not permitted.
  • Acts of disruption, protest, violence, threats, personal attacks, and any other actions construed as intending to disturb or harm Town Hall’s guests, staff, operations, or property will result in immediate ejection from the premises.
  • Guests are not allowed to bring their own alcohol, and any alcohol purchased at Town Hall must be consumed in a safe and responsible manner. Town Hall staff will refuse sale to impaired or underage guests.
  • Please refrain from bringing yard signs into Town Hall. Petitions and signature gathering initiatives are not allowed at Town Hall-produced events, and all petitioners will be directed to the public sidewalk. (If you represent a community group that would like to table at a Town Hall-produced program, please see our tabling guidelines.) 
  • We ask that event attendees please refrain from wearing strong perfumes in consideration of our scent sensitive patrons.

Town Hall staff may intervene where necessary to help ensure that the above expectations are met. Guests who choose not to abide by these policies will be subject to ejection and may also be in violation of city ordinances resulting in possible arrest and prosecution.

Community Code of Conduct

  • We believe that, together, we can model the kind of society we want to share. Therefore, we ask ourselves to embrace curiosity, engage thoughtfully with complicated conversations, maintain space for differing points of view, remain open to continual learning, and–above all–to treat one another with respect and kindness. 

    Alongside this approach to creating a welcoming space, we want to make several tenets explicit:

    • Hate speech is prohibited on our stages and within our spaces. Hate speech is speech that attacks, threatens, or insults a person or group on the basis of sex, gender, race, sexuality, disability, age, religion, country of origin or background. If you experience hate speech while visiting Town Hall, please speak to a member of our staff or e-mail us at so that we can take action.
    • Harassment will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to, intimidation or bullying, uninvited physical contact, stalking or following visitors, and verbal comments that reinforce systems of oppression (related to sex, gender, race, sexuality, disability, age, religion, background, or any other identity). If you experience harassment, please speak to a member of our staff or e-mail us at so that we can take action.
    • When we disagree on a topic or are challenged by ideas, we’ll do so with empathy and civility. A wide breadth of perspectives, ideas, and philosophies are presented at Town Hall–and we value this diversity of thought. Town Hall exists as a non-partisan space where people can bring ideas into broad public consideration; we don’t expect to agree with every proposition or approach, but we agree to maintain empathy and civility when we disagree. Note: As outlined in the above bullets, an individual’s or community’s civil rights or humanity are never open to challenge.
