Every piece has a new story to tell.
Seattle Festival Orchestra’s winter concert invites you into a world where music evolves, surprises, and tells bold stories. In her third collaboration with SFO, composer and cellist Olivia Marckx presents a newly reimagined version of Night Terrace, a vivid work brimming with mystery and texture. Korngold’s Violin Concerto, brought to life by SFO concertmaster Luke Fitzpatrick, first renowned for its dramatic and cinematic flair, now stands as a beloved staple of the violin repertoire. And Atterberg’s sweeping Second Symphony, expanded and reshaped after its premiere, proves that even completed works can keep growing. A program of compelling characters, unexpected turns, and music that sparks the imagination.
Luke Fitzpatrick is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and artistic director of Inverted Space, a Seattle-based new music collective. As a soloist, he recently performed the US Premiere of Isidora Žebeljan’s Three Curious Loves with Seattle Philharmonic and Toru Takemitsu’s Nostalghia with Emerald City Chamber Orchestra. He has performed with the Harry Partch Ensemble as well as with Deltron 3030, Terence Blanchard and the E-Collective and has appeared on recordings released by Ablaze and Centaur records. Luke received his training from UMKC (BM), CalArts (MFA) and the University of Washington (DMA) and is currently concertmaster of Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra, Seattle Festival Orchestra, Federal Way Symphony and Emerald City Chamber Orchestra. He is a founding member of the String Quartet Pure Flavor and is currently completing a cycle of the complete Beethoven String Quartets as requested by the honorable Count Hymanovski. As a composer, He received a 2023 CityArtists Grant from the City of Seattle to produce Nesting Dolls & Dreamscapes, a work that explores multiple microtonal realms colliding against one another amid a theatrical and improvisatory landscape and in April 2026 will premiere his violin concerto Nightfall with Port Townsend Symphony. His 2025 arrangement of The Gremlin Rag from the movie Gremlins performed by Seattle Festival Orchestra was met with great acclaim. Besides music related things, Luke is an avid dancer and enjoys biking, eating sushi and collecting shoes. He plays on a bow generously on loan from the Kevin Tao Foundation.
