Talea Ensemble

The Talea Ensemble is known for presenting a wide range of bold creative performances with precision and superior performance quality. They continue their risk-taking tradition as part of Town Hall’s Town Music season, with their theatrical chamber music piece Sideshow, based on the dark sideshows of Coney Island’s amusement parks in the early 20th century.

Third Coast Percussion

Called “hard-grooving musicians” by The New York Times, Chicago-based Third Coast Percussion has been recognized for its unique take on percussion instrumentation and integration of new media in performances. They join Town Hall’s Town Music season to premiere a new work by renowned composer Philip Glass—his first ever composed specifically for percussion ensemble—plus a new work commissioned by Gavin Bryars and original compositions by Third Coast Percussion that draw inspiration from Glass’s work.

Piano Ki Avaaz

Indian-American composer Reena Esmail works between the worlds of Indian and Western classical music. She is known for merging Western composition techniques with traditional Hindustani instrumentation and musical themes, bringing communities together through the creation of equitable musical spaces. Esmail joins us for the capstone concert in our Town Music series with a newly commissioned Piano Trio composition, featuring: Joshua Roman, cello; David Fung, piano; and Kristin Lee, violin.

Bach to Bates

Named Musical America’s Composer of the Year in 2018, Mason Bates has become one of the most-performed modern composers of the 21st century. For the finale concert in our Town Music season we’re presenting a night of pieces by Mason Bates alongside a selection of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, showcasing an ambitious convergence of musical canon and cutting-edge symphonies.
