The Harder I Fight The More I Love You: A Memoir
Note: Town Hall events are approximately 75 minutes long.
In today’s world, learning details about a celebrity’s life is just a click away; a quick Google search can take you directly to a Wikipedia article or tabloid headline. But some artists choose to tell their own stories, diving deeper into their backgrounds and into who they are as people than any online link could do. Neko Case, the popular alt-country and indie-rock artist, has done just that.
The Grammy-nominated musician, known to fans for her candor and authenticity, has penned a memoir that offers both seriousness and levity. In The Harder I Fight the More I Love You, Case explores her poverty-stricken childhood, where she refers to herself as feral and “raised by two dogs and a space heater” here in Washington State. Case also reflects on desire and friendship and the way that art, music, and a deep connection to nature guided her journey from neglected girl to international stardom.
The Harder I Fight the More I Love You offers itself as a manifesto on how to make space for ourselves in this world, despite the obstacles.
Singer, songwriter, music producer, visual artist, and writer Neko Case has built a career with her distinctive style and musical versatility. In addition to her numerous critically-acclaimed and Grammy-nominated solo records, Case is a founding member of The New Pornographers. She authors the newsletter ‘Entering The Lung’ and is composing the musical theater adaptation of an Academy Award-winning motion picture.
