In this event, Professor Xu Zidong will share his thoughts on four historical stages of 20th-century Chinese novels.
Xu Zidong holds a master’s degree from East China Normal University and UCLA, and a Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong. Director of the Chinese Department of Lingnan University in Hong Kong (2008-2014), Honorary Professor of the School of Chinese at the University of Hong Kong, and Zijiang Chair Professor of East China Normal University. His major works include New Theory of Yu Dafu, Contemporary Novels and Collective Memory: Narrating the Cultural Revolution, The Significance of Zhang Ailing’s Literary History, A Preliminary Study of Hong Kong Short Stories, A Close Reading of Zhang Ailing, Xu Zidong’s Modern Literature Course, Rereading Chinese Novels in the 20th Century.
