Town Hall Presents

Afib – atrial fibrillation – is a type of irregular heartbeat that may cause the heart to beat faster than usual. It is projected that by 2030, approximately 12 million people in the U.S. will have AFib. It is important to know that AFib increases the risk of stroke by about 5 times.

Join Rebecca Crichton, Executive Director of Northwest Center for Creative Aging and a member of Swedish Hospital’s Afib Clinic to discuss this common condition.

April K. Watkins is an advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP), board-certified in adult health. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from The University of Texas at Austin, where her research focused on atrial fibrillation and the development of risk factor modification clinics. With over 15 years of clinical experience, April specializes in cardiac electrophysiology and adult hospital medicine. She is passionate about improving cardiovascular outcomes and has presented nationally and internationally on atrial fibrillation, obesity, and risk factor modification. In addition to her clinical work, she serves as Director of Nursing for InterVol, an international non-profit that addresses healthcare disparities. In this role, she coordinates U.S. medical volunteers to support mobile clinics and healthcare initiatives in underserved areas, including Haiti, Brazil, and Honduras. April believes in patient-centered care and the power of prevention, education, and access to drive long-term health improvements. She values team-based care and building strong provider-patient relationships to support sustainable lifestyle changes.

Rebecca Crichton, Executive Director of Northwest Center for Creative Aging (NWCCA), brings wisdom and purpose to her work with the aging community. She retired from a 21-year career at Boeing as a writer, curriculum designer, and leadership development coach. Her Encore Career uses her knowledge and experience to offer programs and resources related to Creative Aging in the Seattle area. NWCCA collaborates monthly with Town Hall Seattle. She facilitates Wisdom Cafes for the King County Library System and writes a regular column for 3rd Act Magazine.
