SUMMARY:Cole LeFavour
DESCRIPTION:Finding and forging one’s identity and purpose can be challenging enough. Doing that while also being a member of a marginalized identity living in a conservative milieu can add more complexity to this experience. For former state Senator Cole LeFavour\, that was very much a reality. \nLeFavour chronicles their life in a new book\, In the Arms of Mountains: A Memoir of Land\, Love\, and Queer Resistance in Red America. As Idaho’s first out LGBTQ+ lawmaker\, LeFavour explores a journey through gender\, power\, and rebellion against a reactionary system. When LeFavour was 11 years old\, their parents uprooted the family and purchased a ranch in the rugged landscape of Idaho. Cole and their sister came of age in the remote backcountry\, learning about themselves and the world in the wilds of a rural environment situated within a larger system of inequality. \nBy the time they left for college\, Cole was starting to grapple with their queer and nonbinary identity and was concerned about what lay ahead in their red home state. In the Arms of Mountains traces the contours of Cole’s life—from formative years connected to the land to working as a fire lookout and lone ranger\, to joining anti-apartheid protests\, and later becoming Idaho’s first openly queer legislator. \nLeFavour’s memoir aims to be a cautionary yet inspiring story of the power of political resistance in places you least expect it.

SUMMARY:Dave Eggers and Andrew Sean Greer
DESCRIPTION:From bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize finalist Dave Eggers comes his new novel\, Contrapposto\, about prairie-born Cricket Dib\, who has no particular prospects or ambitions until he realizes he can draw. He meets a girl: Olympia Argyros\, who is captivating\, brilliant\, and far more worldly. Olympia recognizes his talent and convinces him to deface a popular playground. Under her direction\, Cricket acts willingly\, and thus begins a sixty-five-year entwining between the two\, encompassing friendship\, working partnership\, and love. They go to art school and then navigate the art world for the next fifty years\, together and apart. \nTheir love changes over the decades\, but their commitment to each other and their search for meaning in the making of art never wanes. Contrapposto is not only about a relationship but about art and what it means to be an artist. The novel spans the globe\, from New York to Thailand\, Indiana to Paris\, and follows Cricket and Olympia through sickness and health\, war and death. \nContrapposto examines the rules and market of the art world\, but it is mainly a story of two friends who believe they can change that world and bring new meaning to it. \nJoining Eggers this evening is his friend\, fellow novelist Andrew Sean Greer\, whose latest work Villa Coco follows a nameless narrator\, an assistant to a wealthy widow. He is charged with the task of archiving art\, but is pulled into far more complicated schemes as he tries to reunite his employer with the love of her life before it is too late. \nBe sure to visit Town Hall Seattle for a conversation that explores the power of art and of human connection.

SUMMARY:Findings Night with Ollella
DESCRIPTION:This residency at Town Hall has been a chance to explore how the cello lives within contemporary songwriting and how music shifts when it’s shaped with a specific space in mind. Over the past few months\, artist-in-residence Ellie Barber (AKA Ollella) has been working between acoustic and electric sounds\, centering on arrangements and ideas that move between these sonic worlds. \nThis final performance reflects that process. Joined by the Ollella band\, Ellie will share a mix of new songs written during the residency alongside a few older pieces in this new context in mind. There will be moments of reflection woven throughout\, touching on what shaped the writing and how the songs took form. The set moves between more stripped-down passages and fuller arrangements\, shaped by a more intentional approach to arrangement developed during the residency.

SUMMARY:Lynda Mapes
DESCRIPTION:The northernmost stretches of Alaska host an environmental wonder that very few people will connect with in their lives — millions of acres of largely undisturbed public land along the Arctic Circle. This region contains pristine tundra landscapes\, unrestricted rivers shaped only by nature\, and unique wildlife like polar bears\, the only caribou herds in the United States\, and more aquatic birds than can be found in any other Arctic wetland. And while the features and roles of these lands may be foreign to many even within the United States\, science writer Lynda Mapes is committed to the importance of preserving one of America’s most significant wildlands against a newly emboldened push of political interference. \nJoin veteran journalist Mapes alongside longtime Arctic defenders for a multifaceted presentation on the wonder of these lands and the risks they face under a new agenda under the Trump administration\, angling for maximum oil\, gas\, and mineral extraction in Alaska. The evening will open with a screening of the short film The Arctic: Our Last Great Wilderness — shot by National Geographic photographer Florian Schulz — showcasing the spectacular beauty of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and urgency of protecting it.

SUMMARY:Celebrating the Miles Davis Centennial
DESCRIPTION:Miles Electric Band (M.E.B) is a progressive All-Star ensemble featuring Miles Davis alumni\, which revises the framework for modern jazz improvisation. The avant-garde collective revisits repertoire from Miles Davis’ electric period to pay homage to The Chief. The band is formed with two generations of players: Davis’ contemporaries and the next generation of music all-stars. The highly eclectic group was put together by EMMY and GRAMMY AWARD WINNING producer/drummer Vince Wilburn\, Jr. (Miles Davis’ nephew)\, with the intention to continue expanding the boundaries of music\, while also paying homage to the classics. A rotating ensemble of master musicians\, the current lineup includes these artists who collaborated with Miles Davis including: Vince Wilburn Jr. (drums)\, Daryl Jones (bass)\, Jean-Paul Bourelly (guitar)\, Robert Irving III (keys)\, and  Munyungo Jackson (percussion)\, as well as a new generation of talented aficionados of Miles Davis: Greg Spero (keys)\, Rasaki Aladokun (percussion)\, Antoine Roney (saxophone)\, Keyon Harrold (trumpet)\, and Jason Kibler AKA DJ Logic (turntable).

SUMMARY:Senator Chris Murphy with Marcus Harrison Green
DESCRIPTION:Are you concerned about the current state of America? You are not alone. Many people are worried about the U.S. in a political sense\, but Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut sees our crisis as more than just a political one. Americans have lost the sense of daily purpose and connection that are vital to happiness\, becoming anxious\, angry\, and adrift\, and the rich and well-connected have nearly uncontested influence in our system. In recent years\, Senator Murphy has challenged the Trump administration. But he also sees President Trump’s handling of democracy as a symptom of a deeper crisis: the abandonment of the common good as our country’s organizing principle. \nIn his new book\, Crisis of the Common Good: The Fight for Meaning and Connection in a Broken America\, Senator Murphy draws on history and political philosophy to expose how six different cults have paved the way to our current troubles: a cult of profit that punishes workers\, a cult of globalism that weakens communities\, a cult of technology that turns us against one another\, a cult of consumption that undermines citizenship\, a cult of credentialism that devalues those without degrees\, and a cult of corruption that threatens democracy.

SUMMARY:UNRECOGNIZED
DESCRIPTION:On May 11\, 2022\, the Duwamish Tribe filed a renewed petition for federal recognition in Seattle. Under revised terms\, the tribe is now permitted to submit new evidence—an opportunity that could reshape its long-standing case and the tribal landscape in Puget Sound. \nUNRECOGNIZED is about power\, politics and culture. Drawing on historical records\, lived experience\, and behind-the-scenes decisions about public art\, the half-hour film shows how the struggle for recognition is both political and cultural. \n\nEvents are offered for informational\, entertainment\, and educational purposes only. SUMMARY:Barbara McQuade with Jenny Durkan
DESCRIPTION:New York Times bestselling author and former U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade offers an exposé on what she frames as an escalating threat of far-right politics to both national security and American democracy. In The Fix: Saving America from the Corruption of a Mob-Style Government\, McQuade draws on her decades of legal experience to argue how systems of organized crime and political opportunism exploit the levers of power — using corruption\, cruelty\, and chaos as tools to dominate institutions and eliminate accountability. McQuade exposes government tactics like information warfare\, aggressive retribution\, conformism enforced by fear\, and pervasive dismantling of legal checks and balances\, thereby attacking public interest and undermining justice in the process. \nWeaving together courtroom stories\, political analysis\, and cautionary lessons from history\, McQuade makes the case that the threats we face are not merely possibilities — they’re already here. The Fix is not just a warning\, however. The book is also a call to action. McQuade offers reforms and strategies that she believes can reclaim the rule of law and recenter democracy with the power of the people. The Fix is for everyone concerned about America and for those prepared to take a stand.

SUMMARY:Perrin Roosevelt Ireland
DESCRIPTION:In the illustrated guide\, Poking the Squid\, Perrin Roosevelt Ireland illustrates the splendid diversity of nature’s eroticism. Chock full of delightful watercolor comics featuring pregnant seahorse dads\, spider oral sex\, and the four-headed echidna penis\, Ireland takes us on a wild biodiversity ride through queerness\, infidelity\, consent\, divorce\, sex change\, and even sexual cannibalism in the animal world. \nIreland interviews researchers probing the leading edge of animal reproductive biology and\, with the help of her cats Ursula and Pudge\, brings readers along as she learns the latest discoveries that implode traditional notions of sex roles\, relationships\, and just who is mounting whom. These researchers are making dolphin vaginal popsicles\, retrieving sperm packets from male squid mouths\, and documenting dolphin orgies. From the externalized clitoris of the spotted hyena to mating-by-fusion in anglerfish\, Poking the Squid draws on decades of feminist and queer theory to show that sexual diversity is biodiversity\, and boisterous boinking is only natural.

SUMMARY:Laura Lootens
DESCRIPTION:With a sound that commands attention from the first note\, Laura Lootens has emerged as one of the most exciting voices of the classical guitar. Her performances fuse fearless virtuosity with an impressive stage presence that is poised and dramatic\, yet intensely communicative. At the heart of her artistry lies a fascination with contrast: for Lootens\, tension and release are the lifeblood of music. \nThe 2025/26 season brings major milestones\, including her debut at the prestigious Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern\, as well as three U.S. tours and an Australia tour. She also appears as a soloist with the Hessian State Orchestra Wiesbaden and the Heidelberger Sinfoniker\, and performs Ponce’s Concierto del Sur with the Mittelsächsische Philharmonie. \nHer second album\, Diabolico (Naïve\, 2025)\, follows her acclaimed debut and was selected by Apple Music as one of its “Albums of the Month\,” spending weeks in the Apple Music Classical top charts. Gramophone praises her “exceptional command of the instrument” and her “capacity for pure theatre and drama.” The magazine specifically highlighted her interpretation of Rochberg’s Caprice Variations\, noting the “Lisztian tension between the facile and the profound.” \nAmong her honors are the First Prize and the Special Prize at the 2022 Andrés Segovia International Competition. She also received a scholarship and the Special Prize from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben. \nLaura began her studies with Professor Franz Halász at age fourteen. Only one year later\, she began her Bachelor’s degree as one of the youngest students ever at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. After earning her Master’s degree with distinction\, she joined the university’s faculty at just twenty-two.

SUMMARY:Ocean Vuong with Putsata Reang
DESCRIPTION:“The hardest thing in the world is to live only once…” \nOne late summer evening in the post-industrial town of East Gladness\, Connecticut\, nineteen-year-old Hai stands on the edge of a bridge in pelting rain\, ready to jump\, when he hears someone shout across the river. The voice belongs to Grazina\, an elderly widow succumbing to dementia\, who convinces him to take another path. Bereft and out of options\, he quickly becomes her caretaker. Over the course of the next year\, the unlikely pair develops a life-altering bond. Built on empathy\, spiritual reckoning\, and heartbreak\, their unexpected friendship develops the power to transform Hai’s relationship to himself\, his family\, and a community on the brink. \nIn his highly anticipated second novel\, The Emperor of Gladness\, award-winning author Ocean Vuong invites readers into a lyrical depiction of the ways human connection can provide crucial infrastructure on the fringes of society. Following the cycles of history\, memory\, and time\, Vuong aims to show the profound ways in which love\, labor\, and loneliness have contributed to the foundations of American life and the stories we tell ourselves and each other in order to survive. Emerging from the messiness of reality and the collected traumas of endurance is a brave\, heartfelt epic on the impacts of found and chosen family. \nGrounded in the lived experiences of his characters and elevated with a dextrous grasp on prose\, Vuong invites readers on an exploration of intergenerational bonds and self-discovery. The Emperor of Gladness presents a tender yet unblinking approach to trauma and resilience in a story of loss\, hope\, and how far we would go to possess one of life’s most fleeting mercies — a second chance.

SUMMARY:Ben Wikler with Jen Rubin
DESCRIPTION:Ben Wikler\, hailed as the “preeminent state party chair” by Nancy Pelosi\, led Wisconsin Democrats through a series of hold-your-breath fights against right-wing extremists that resulted\, against the odds\, in the unrigging of the political system of the most divided — and\, until recently\, most gerrymandered — state in the nation. His new book\, This Is The Plan: How to End America’s Meltdown and Save Democracy\, draws on decades of experience in everything from school-board races to presidential elections to bring readers inside the hidden web of power that shapes our lives. \nAt every step\, he shows what individuals and small groups can do to help build a future where democracy thrives\, and our country works for everyone. With verve\, infectious humor\, and a rallying-cry energy that has inspired tens of thousands of volunteers. Wikler offers an idealistic yet practical guide to turning the present crisis into a better future.

SUMMARY:Perfume Genius (Duo)
DESCRIPTION:Perfume Genius is the moniker of artist Mike Hadreas. Hadreas began his music career in 2008 and released his debut album\, Learning\, in 2010 via long-time label home Matador. The album immediately captured critics’ attention\, with Pitchfork praising its “eviscerating and naked” songs\, marked by “heartbreaking sentiments and bruised characterizations delivered in a voice that ranges from an ethereal croon to a slightly cracked warble.” These descriptors became the hallmarks of Perfume Genius – Hadreas’ unique ability to convey emotional vulnerability not only lyrically\, but with his impressively nuanced vocals.
