To meet the need\, the county will need roughly 172\,000 more affordable homes over the next 20 years\, and more than 120\,000 of those for people with the very lowest incomes. At the same time\, funding for the supportive housing that helps people move out of homelessness is under major strain. Making real progress will take a steady\, shared commitment to housing as a regional priority. \nJoin the Housing Development Consortium for an evening on what it will take to make the progress we need. Gregg Colburn\, a University of Washington professor and author of Homelessness is a Housing Problem\, will open with a presentation drawn from his forthcoming book on housing as infrastructure. A panel of local leaders\, moderated by a journalist\, then takes up the questions people across the county are asking: how do we build homes that families with the lowest incomes can actually afford\, and how do we get supportive housing built for people leaving homelessness? DESCRIPTION:Join Structural Engineers Foundation of Washington for an in-depth look at one of the most significant historic preservation and seismic retrofit projects in North America — the renovation of the historic Salt Lake Temple. Originally completed in 1893\, the Temple has undergone several renovations throughout its history. In 2019\, a comprehensive modernization and seismic strengthening program was announced to address aging infrastructure\, enhance life safety\, and improve the building’s resilience to future earthquakes while preserving its historic and architectural significance. This presentation will explore the innovative engineering solutions being implemented as part of the renovation\, including state-of-the-art base isolation systems\, post-tensioning of the stone masonry walls\, and extensive structural reinforcement of the roof and supporting elements. Attendees will gain insight into the challenges of upgrading a complex historic structure in a high-seismic region while maintaining its original character and craftsmanship. Scheduled to reopen in early 2027\, the Salt Lake Temple renovation serves as a remarkable example of how modern engineering can preserve history while preparing iconic structures for future generations. DESCRIPTION:A terminal diagnosis arrives with its own kind of suffering — not only physical\, but psycho-spiritual and existential. Evidence now supports what many practitioners have long suspected: that psychedelics can meaningfully ease that suffering\, helping people move through anticipatory grief\, fear\, and isolation toward something closer to peace. \nWe’re joined by two practitioners who sit with people at the threshold — one with medicine\, one without. Christine Caldwell\, founder of the nonprofit End of Life Psychedelic Care\, works at the frontier of ketamine-assisted care for existential distress and anticipatory grief. Laura Sullivan Cassidy — death doula\, grief coach\, and community care leader at Recompose\, Seattle’s pioneering green funeral home — walks alongside families from terminal diagnosis through the transitions that follow. \nTogether\, they offer a rare window into what it looks like to be truly accompanied at the end of life\, and what becomes possible when that accompaniment includes psychedelic medicine.

Drawing from the two campaigns Guardians of Life and In the Spirit of Right and Respectful Relations\, with storytelling from Kiliii Yüyan and Jay Julius Xw’tot lhem\, this conversation highlights stories of leadership\, reciprocity\, and the enduring relationships between people and place. \nYou will hear from Kiliii Yüyan\, Photographer and National Geographic Explorer\, who brings to life stories from the Arctic sea ice\, beneath the waves\, and within the heart of human communities. Of Chinese and Nanai/Hèzhé (East Asian Indigenous) descent\, he works through a cross-cultural lens\, exploring how humanity—inseparable from the natural world—lives in relationship with land and sea. \nKiliii’s co-presenter is Jay Julius Xw’tot lhem\, fisherman\, Former Chairman and Councilman at Lummi Nation\, and current President of Se’Si’Le. Se’Si’Le is an Indigenous-led and run non-profit based in Bellingham\, WA.
