Seattle Arts & Lectures cultivates transformative experiences through story and language with readers and writers of all generations. Our Writers in the Schools (WITS) program places professional local writers in public elementary, middle, and high school school classrooms for extended creative writing residencies. Founded in 1994, the program has supported over 100,000 young people throughout the Puget Sound Region in discovering and developing their authentic writing and performance voices. Through WITS, students become authors of their own lives.
Every year, WITS culminates in a program-wide reading and celebration of student work that features student readers from approximately 30 schools and Seattle Children’s Hospital. This year, elementary and middle school students will read on Wednesday, May 31, and middle and high school students read on Thursday, June 1.About Seattle Arts & Lectures
