Farms of all sizes have a measurable impact on the environment and land use capabilities. According to Don Stuart (former American Farmland Trust Northwest Regional Director), the resulting disputes between farmers and environmentalists often harm both sides. Based on more than 20 years of experience, he’ll explain the legal framework and policy issues involved in this dispute, offering his advice on how the two sides can — and should — come to a mutual agreement. He’ll also outline the cultural and political ramifications that might occur if these two sides continue to be at odds. Stuart is the author of Barnyards and Birkenstocks: Why Farmers and Environmentalists Need Each Other.
