Earshot Jazz presents the Seattle Modern Orchestra, the only large ensemble in the Pacific Northwest solely dedicated to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Champions of new music from Seattle and around the world, Seattle Modern Orchestra gathers on Town Hall’s stage to perform pieces by Wayne Horvitz and Darius Jones. Wayne Horvitz is a compelling composer in many settings, as well as a pianist and electronic musician. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including two MAP grants, the NEA American Masterpiece Award, and most recently the American Prize in Composition, Orchestra Division. Darius Jones has created a recognizable voice as a critically acclaimed saxophonist and composer by embracing individuality and innovation in the tradition of African-American music. Listen in as Seattle Modern Orchestra explores music by two eminent modern composers, and masters of the keyboard and sax.
The 31st Annual Earshot Jazz Festival celebrates the art form’s leading edges and cultural heritage. For 33 days, jazz greats from around the world and renowned resident artists come together to create, share, improvise, explore, collaborate, and swing.
Presented by Earshot Jazz.
