Town Hall’s new Replay Matinee series invites you to come together in our building to enjoy screenings of our greatest hits — during the day! This community program is free to all participants.
This Replay Matinee features Seattle-based writer and activist Ijeoma Oluo, who came to the Town Hall stage in 2019 to discuss her #1 New York Times bestseller, So You Want to Talk About Race.
Widespread reporting on aspects of white supremacy–from police brutality to the mass incarceration of African Americans–have made it impossible to ignore the issue of race. To guide us in discussing this difficult subject, Ijeoma Oluo steps up with perspectives from her book So You Want to Talk About Race. Joined in conversation by Associate Editor of The Stranger Charles Mudede, Oluo delves into subjects ranging from intersectionality to affirmative action to “model minorities.” Together, Oluo and Mudede navigate questions of race that arise in our daily lives. How do you tell your roommate her jokes are racist? Why did your sister-in-law take umbrage when you asked to touch her hair–and how do you make it right? How do you explain white privilege to your white, privileged friend? Join Oluo and Mudede for an honest conversation about race and racism, and how they infect almost every aspect of American life.
Presented by Town Hall Seattle.
