La producción literaria en español tiene una larga tradición dentro de los Estados Unidos. Desde hace un par de siglos, escritores como José Martí y García Lorca han encontrado en este país una comunidad literaria floreciente que los ha inspirado a producir parte significativa de su obra. A lo largo de los años, las obras escritas en castellano han enriquecido el acervo cultural de nuestra nación. Sin embargo, a pesar de que ya somos el segundo país con más hispanohablantes en el mundo, la industria editorial estadounidense continúa enfocada en el idioma inglés, añadiendo un obstáculo más a los autores emergentes. Ante estos retos, ¿qué puede hacer el escritor para facilitar su camino hacia la publicación?
Para cerrar con broche de oro la conferencia de la Asociación de Escritores y Escritura (AWP), agentes literarios, editores y autores de todo el país se reunirán a compartir sus experiencias sobre la publicación de la literatura en español que se produce en los Estados Unidos. Al terminar la charla, celebraremos el cierre de la conferencia con música, bebidas y aperitivos.

Seattle Escribe es una organización sin fines de lucro que apoya a los escritores de habla hispana radicados en los Estados Unidos, especialmente en la región del noroeste, a que desempeñen su oficio independientemente de su etapa de formación. Proporcionamos recursos para que inicien y desarrollen su escritura a través de clases, talleres y lecturas íntegramente en español con el fin de afianzar su identidad a través de este idioma. Asimismo, difundimos información acerca de oportunidades de desarrollo creativo y profesional al mismo tiempo que promovemos la labor artística de nuestros miembros.

Publishing in Spanish from the United States (English)
Literary production in Spanish has a long tradition in the United States. For a couple of centuries, writers like José Martí and García Lorca have found in this country a flourishing literary community that inspired them to create some of their most important works in Spanish. Over the years, literature in Spanish has enriched the cultural heritage of our nation. However, despite being the country with the second-highest number of Spanish speakers in the world, the American publishing industry remains focused on the English language, adding another barrier to emerging authors. Faced with these challenges, what can Spanish-speaking writers do to ease their path to publication?
To close the Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) Conference with a bang, literary agents, editors, and authors from around the country will come together to share their experiences on the publication of literature in Spanish. After the event, we will celebrate the end of the conference with music, drinks, and appetizers.

About Seattle Escribe
Seattle Escribe is a non-profit organization that supports Spanish-speaking writers based in the United States, especially in the Northwest. We are a volunteer driven organization that helps writers to carry out their craft regardless of their stage of training. We provide resources for them to start and develop their writing through classes, workshops and readings entirely in Spanish, in order to strengthen their identity through their language. Likewise, we disseminate information about opportunities for creative and professional development while promoting the artistic work of our members.
