Civic Saturday inspires our community, encouraging us to reflect, connect, and create new civic traditions that are joyful and communal. Around the country, communities are implementing social distancing practices in order to promote the health and safety of vulnerable populations during the coronavirus outbreak. In this moment where gathering in large groups is not possible for the safety of our community, Citizen University invites us to maintain our rituals and strengthen our collective civic health with a Virtual Civic Saturday.

Tune in to the livestream and participate virtually with friends in the comfort of your home, with classic Civic Saturday songs, Turn-and-Talks, reflections with poetry and Civic Scripture, and a Civic Sermon from Eric Liu. Even if we cannot gather in person, join Citizen University to keep up the spirit of community engagement and discussion during this time where many of us find ourselves isolated. Come together online for a Virtual Civic Saturday!

Livestream FAQs:

Q: How will Virtual Civic Saturday work?
A: On March 28th at 11am Pacific Time, join the livestream feed at https://youtu.be/FpU54u5RtQA. You can watch alone, or with those who you are social distancing with at home. If you haven’t been able to attend a Civic Saturday or if you live outside of the Seattle area, this is the perfect time to join in!

Q: How will Virtual Civic Saturday be different from a typical Civic Saturday?
A: While we believe gathering in person is important in strong civic rituals, in this moment where gathering in large groups is not possible for the safety of our community, it is important to keep our spirits up in during a time when people may be more isolated than usual. We will include many of the elements of a regular Civic Saturday and will share about how you can participate. We will still sing, listen to readings of Civic Scripture, reflect with poetry, and hear a a civic sermon from Eric Liu.

Q: What if I can’t join at the time of the live stream?
A: Virtual Civic Saturday will remain on the Youtube and the Citizen University website long after the livestream ends. We encourage everyone to join us in conversation in the comments and afterward with #CivicLoveNote
