In a world of plugged-in millennials and the rise of the “Yuccie,” National Book Award-winner Jonathan Franzen (The Corrections, Freedom) presents a seemingly-lost side to today’s youth–one filled with idealism and innocence. Called a “multigenerational American epic” (The Guardian), Purity follows its title character (and three others) across continents and generations as she struggles with family history and personal identity to forge connections with others. Franzen will discuss his inspirations for the novel, explore what it means to be human, discuss how the internet both divides–and unites–society, and offer insight into what the previous generation has to teach the next.
