Gender Identity in Seattle and Beyond

Joe Wenke

The frequency of transgender men and women in the media (think Orange is the New Black, Transparent) has sparked a national conversation on the intersection of gender and identity. In The Human Agenda, LGBTQI advocate and social critic Joe Wenke sheds light on the complex issues related to transgender individuals, sexual orientation, and society’s reaction to people who are different from themselves. This panel discussion–featuring Wenke, transgender model and activist Gisele Alicea, and Seattle Children’s Gender Specialist Aidan Key (Trans Bodies, Trans Selves)–will build upon the themes of Wenke’s book, providing a local lens to the national conversation defining gender, politics, and social interactions.
