Earshot Jazz presents
Joachim Mencel Quartet
With M.O.M.

In his quartet, the Polish piano titan Joachim Mencel also performs on hurdy gurdy, a cranked fiddle of the Middle Ages. He and Pete McCann (guitars), Ugonna Okegwo (bass), and Allan Mednard (drums) create distinctive jazz. This performance will become a live-recorded CD with Seattle’s Origin Records label on the heels of Brooklyn Eye, which was named Best Recording 2020 in High Fidelity magazine.

Pete McCann is a sought-after sideman from duos to big bands, with a unique and wide-ranging set of musical skills.

Ugonna Okegwo is one of the most distinctive and sought-after jazz bassists in the world.

Allan Mednard is a New York based jazz drummer. He has performed with artists including Aaron Parks, Lauren Henderson, and Alex Lore.

Opening the performance is M.O.M.: bassist and drummer François and Louis Moutin, identical twins, appear with Haitian-Canadian multi-genre, multi-horn player Jowee Omicil. François and Louis Moutin are so connected in their music that, “It would be hard to find two musicians more in sync than the twins” (DownBeat magazine). Jowee Omicil has worked in the past with artists such as Michel Martelly, Roy Hargrove, Randy Kerber, Jacob Desvarieux, and Ibrahim Maalouf.
