Earshot Jazz presents violinist Jenny Scheinman and drummer Allison Miller leading a sparkling quartet with Seattle-reared pianist Carmen Staaf and acoustic bassist Tony Scherr. They take Town Hall’s stage with a co-writing collaboration—Parlour Game—that intermingles panoramic Americana-infused arrangements with a Brooklyn jazz pocket. Together, Scheinman and Miller perform edgy but swinging material that honors the groove and women in jazz before them. Parlour Game digs into the rootsier elements of jazz. The repertoire explores swing, gogo, backbeats, and ballads. Scheinman and Miller draw on their eclectic backgrounds to explore the classic format of the piano quartet and strive for excellence in simplicity—the perfect groove and a melody that sticks.
The 31st Annual Earshot Jazz Festival celebrates the art form’s leading edges and cultural heritage. For 33 days, jazz greats from around the world and renowned resident artists come together to create, share, improvise, explore, collaborate, and swing.
