Major societal decision-making is increasingly leaning on the mathematics and analysis of big data — a supposedly unbiased source of information. Berit Anderson, Managing Editor at Crosscut, and Irina Raicu, Director of the Markkula Center’s Internet Ethics Program at Santa Clara University, will discuss the changing nature of decision-making, and explain why the way we’re collecting, analyzing, and using information is inherently biased. They’ll offer an analysis of how this process is changing not only the way we see ourselves, but the world around us.
