For years, Geraldine DeRuiter worked as a Seattle copywriter while her husband’s job kept him constantly traveling to international destinations. She says, “It sucked for both of us, but probably more for me.” But after getting laid off from the job she loved, DeRuiter embarked on a five-year adventure of tagging along on her husband’s world travels and she chronicled her experiences, first on her blog, everywhereist.com, and now in her book, All Over the Place: Adventures in Travel, True Love, and Petty Theft. She learned about unemployment and brain tumors and lost luggage and lost opportunities and, well, just getting lost. In conversation with award-winning Seattle writer, Deanna Duff, DeRuiter shares her story and discusses marriage, family, health, and happiness that come from getting lost and finding the unexpected.
