Children are spending less time outdoors than ever before, and it’s affecting them well into adulthood — one in three Americans are overweight or obese, and sedentary lifestyles have been linked to chronic diseases that account for more than 20% of national health care costs. But there is a solution which doesn’t cost anything. This timely discussion will explore the connection between outdoor time and the physical and mental health of children, examining why it’s important to get a daily dose of “Vitamin-N” — nature. Featured panelists include IslandWood’s Ben Klasky; Pooja S. Tandon, MD, MPH, Center for Child Health, Behavior & Development, Seattle Children’s, University of Washington; and Marc Berejka, Director of Government and Community Affairs, REI.
