Earshot Jazz presents Brazillian guitarist and pianist Egberto Gismonti in a rare United States appearance. Ever since the premiere of his breakthrough composition “O Sonho” in 1968 at a career-making International Song Festival, Gismonti has been hailed as a visionary. Playing solo, Gismonti is a virtuoso on both guitar and piano whose vast body of work melds classical repertoire with the music of his native Brazil’s folk traditions, particularly those of the Indigenous peoples of the Amazon rainforest. Sit in for a chance to experience the blazing technique and vast improvisational skill of an artist who “wove jazz and Brazilian traditions into a sound so expansive, he needed ten strings rather than six” (NPR).
The 31st Annual Earshot Jazz Festival celebrates the art form’s leading edges and cultural heritage. For 33 days, jazz greats from around the world and renowned resident artists come together to create, share, improvise, explore, collaborate, and swing.
Presented by Earshot Jazz.
