Town Hall continues our partnership with Earshot Jazz, presenting powerhouse jazz musicians in one-night-only livestreams.
Dedicated Jazz singer Johnaye Kendrick is “not just a vocalist,” says the legendary saxophonist Jimmy Heath. “She is a complete musician with a beautiful instrument and open ears.” Kendrick joins us via livestream for a performance brimming with sterling vocals, and backed by Bill Anschell on piano, Chris Symer on bass, and D’Vonne Lewis on drums. Kendrick’s shows feature her own original compositions as well as fresh interpretations of beloved jazz and pop compositions. She focuses on graceful renditions of jazz standards and composes music and lyrics where she often accompanies herself on harmonium, violin, viola and percussion. Tune in for a concert filled with Kendrick’s signature expressive tones and bright, warm disposition.
Johnaye Kendrick has been a Seattle resident since joining the faculty of Cornish College of the Arts teaching jazz vocals. She is accomplished and widely respected, and remains active on the New York City scene, including recent work with the trumpeter Nicolas Payton. She received a DownBeat Student Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Vocalist, and she was nominated for an Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award as “Northwest Vocalist of the Year.”
Presented by Earshot Jazz and Town Hall Seattle.
