Town Hall continues our partnership with Earshot Jazz, presenting powerhouse jazz musicians in one-night-only livestreams.
The great jazz pianist Keith Jarrett is known, among other things, for his 1983 Standards trio—a group of performers who presented iconic jazz standards and became one of the most enduring trios of the next two decades. In Jarrett’s style, Seattle’s own master pianist Bill Anschell steps forward with a Standard trio performance of his own. Anschell’s signature style leans on his passion for rhythmic experimentation, with inspiration drawn from Anschell’s time studying with South Indian mridangam drum master T Ranganathan. He takes the stage in collaboration with bassist Chris Symer—whose open-minded approach and appreciation of many styles of music have honed his ability to fit into almost any musical situation—plus drummer D’Vonne Lewis, whose talent brings a blend of styles ranging from jazz, funk, hip-hop, and rock to Brazilian and African. Tune in as Anschell’s trio brings invention and discovery to jazz “standards.”
