The Hate U Give
Saturday, March 30, 2019, 7:30PM
Hugo House (Capitol Hill)

Not your run-of-the-mill book club, Bushwick shows offer a special interaction between audiences and musicians. Bushwick performers present their own original songs inspired by the show’s featured book. This stirring concert features original music inspired by Angie Thomas’ young adult novel The Hate U Give. Honored with a slot on the 2017 National Book Award Longlist in the category of Young People’s Literature, The Hate U Give tells the story of 16-year-old Starr Carter, the sole witness to a police shooting involving an unarmed friend. Carter finds herself torn between two vastly different worlds: the poverty-stricken neighborhood she has grown up in and the upper-crust suburban prep school she attends. Fellow bestseller John Green raves: “Angie Thomas has written a stunning, brilliant, gut-wrenching novel that will be remembered as a classic of our time.” Don’t miss this provocative performance by artists of all ages offering their responses to this timely work.

Attention Teens! Join us before the show for a teens-only reception with complimentary finger foods, beverages, a photo booth with props, and free books for attendees. Click here for more info and to RSVP.
