“Garbes unpacks reams of pregnancy advice, often absurd in its conflicting demands. Like a Mother gave me a toolkit for approaching a hoped-for future.” – Huffington Post
Not your run-of-the-mill book club, Bushwick shows offer a special interaction between audiences and musicians. Bushwick performers present their own original songs inspired by the show’s featured book. This concert features music inspired by Like a Mother: A Feminist Journey Through the Science and Culture of Pregnancy by Angela Garbes. Garbes is a nonfiction writer, and a former staff writer at Seattle alt-weekly The Stranger. She joined us last spring as a conversation partner with Samantha Irby, and in 2018, took the stage to talk about Like a Mother in conversation with Lindy West. Using that same book as a jumping off point, artists of all ages consider the takeaways from Garbes’ book and offer their responses to the thought-provoking Like a Mother.
Presented by Bushwick Book Club and Town Hall Seattle.
