Alan Mallach
Building Smart, Sustainable Cities

Mallach-01

Here in Seattle, we are inundated by sustainably minded trends such as investment in urban areas, attempts to shift away from car dependence, and the demand for walkable, transit-oriented neighborhoods. But, in reality most U.S. metros continue to follow old patterns, the decline of city centers and the sprawl of suburbs. In America’s Urban Future, city planner Alan Mallach examines our country’s policies, comparing them to Canada. Has Canada fostered healthier urban centers and more energy, resource-efficient suburban growth? Focusing on equity and action, Mallach will talk about the demands of our shifting demographics, changing housing markets and advancing issues of climate change. He will share his recommendations for U.S. cities as they work to develop progressive policies and strategies to rebuild their cities and neighborhoods.
