Short Stories Live
A Rogue’s Christmas 2016

SSL Bad Santa

A Town Hall tradition, the holiday edition of Short Stories Live (curated by Jean Sherrard) brings together unconventional holiday tales for an afternoon of short stories, poems, and seasonal music by returning house band Pineola (comprised of Leslie Braly, John Owen, Josh Woods, Dirk Lebsack, and Ed Woods). Favorite Northwest actors, including Kurt Beattie, Jean Sherrard, and Paul Dorpat, and Khanh Doan will take turns sharing the gleeful, carousing nature only “a rogue’s Christmas” can hold.

This year’s story selections include: A delightful seasonal charmer from a teenage F. Scott Fitzgerald (one of his earliest published stories) telling the story of a young dandy who tries to give away cash, with unforeseen and occasionally disastrous results; Kurt Vonnegut’s wry and sly “While Mortals Sleep” about a curmudgeonly scrooge of a newspaper editor who finds himself judging a holiday lighting competition; and the delirious and transcendent “The Seraph and the Zambezi” by Muriel Spark, detailing the visit of an angel to a Zimbabwean Christmas pageant.
