Want to watch 90 middle-schoolers knock out words like zwieback, alluvium, thalweg, and peccadillo? So do we! The regional spelling bee brings together students from schools across King and Snohomish Counties who have already proven themselves to be fantastic spellers. This year’s bee will be moderated by Seattle Radio Theatre founder and KIRO Radio’s producer, host, and historian Feliks Banel.
The winner will advance to the annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Amy Marie Dimak was the last national champion to hail from our area (her word was ‘fibranne’). Join us to support our outstanding students as they grapple with high-level language, and cheer them on as they try to take the championship in 2019!
Important Attendance Note:
Since space at this year’s Bee is limited, we’re making it a priority to accommodate our spellers’ guests. Each Bee contestant is guaranteed up to three admissions for friends or family members. We will ask additional guests and general admission arrivals to form a standby line at the door until student check-in is complete and we can assess the remaining capacity of the house. Thank you for your patience, and your support of these amazing students! In partnership with the Seattle Channel, the Bee will be livestreamed and broadcast live to cable channel 21 (Comcast and Wave) and channel 8003 (CenturyLink) for Seattle cable subscribers.
Presented by Town Hall Seattle and Meydenbauer Center Theatre.
