Featuring Chris Vaughn – Clarinet,
Dan Kerlee – Bassoon,
Kristin Woodward – French Horn
Edward Elgar – In the South
The featured new piece is the premiere of ‘Remembering an Irish Mam’ by orchestra member and local composer Ray Heraty–a loving reminiscence for large orchestra.
Principal winds Chris Vaughn, clarinet, Dan Kerlee, bassoon, and Kristin Woodward, horn are showcased in the ‘Sinfonia Concertante’ by Finnish composer Bernhard Crusell (the ‘old’ piece in the program).
Also on the concert, ‘Euterpe’ by the ground-breaking American composer George Chadwick and ‘In the South’ by British composer Edward Elgar, both ‘the latest thing’ written around the turn of the last century.
