In her newest book\, The Carbon Wave\, Leah Stokes chronicles the turbulent path of their climate bill as it veered between breakthrough and collapse — from the hopeful beginnings of the Green New Deal in 2018\, to the bill’s near-certain defeat by Senator Joe Manchin in the winter of 2021\, to the surprise passage of the landmark legislation in August 2022. DESCRIPTION:Hello\, North America Friends! \nI’m Young Moon\, and I’m bringing my new stand-up special to North America this September. I wrote most of this show while studying and living in New York. Although the show is performed in Chinese\, this North American tour feels more like a locally created production than a Chinese show brought overseas. The special covers my experiences and reflections from the past year in New York\, stories from my life in China\, and childhood memories. When writing this show\, I gave myself three rules: it should be funny\, it should be free\, and it does not always have to be politically correct. As a result\, the show may include provocative or potentially offensive material\, as well as mature themes. Please note that “mature content” does not necessarily mean sexual jokes. Audience discretion is advised\, and tickets should not be purchased for anyone under 18. I’m turning 33 this year\, and I hope this special will bring my “Jesus year” to a close — and the beginning of something new. In the face of what many call an authoritarian crackdown\, communities have come together to resist and provide aid\, protection\, and awareness around the presence of ICE in neighborhoods across the country. The fight against ICE is multifaceted and occurs at all different levels. Whether in the streets\, through advocacy\, or social organizing\, a frontline has emerged which directly challenges the actions and existence of ICE and the MAGA movement. \nAward-winning journalist\, broadcaster\, and author\, Sonali Kolhatkar\, reports on these issues from the ground level. Her new book\, Breaking ICE: Community Defense Against State Terror and MAGA Fascism\, is a ripping\, vivid account of the growing movement against state violence\, featuring interviews with those on the frontlines of the fight for immigrant justice. Kolhatkar highlights the divide between the ICE agents\, the DHS\, and their supporters\, terrorizing communities throughout the United States with the threat of arrest and deportation\, versus the growing national movement dedicated to protecting communities\, reversing racist and authoritarian policies\, and otherwise challenging MAGA’s violent anti-immigration regime.

DESCRIPTION:Perfume Genius is the moniker of artist Mike Hadreas. Hadreas began his music career in 2008 and released his debut album\, Learning\, in 2010 via long-time label home Matador. The album immediately captured critics’ attention\, with Pitchfork praising its “eviscerating and naked” songs\, marked by “heartbreaking sentiments and bruised characterizations delivered in a voice that ranges from an ethereal croon to a slightly cracked warble.” These descriptors became the hallmarks of Perfume Genius – Hadreas’ unique ability to convey emotional vulnerability not only lyrically\, but with his impressively nuanced vocals.

Gulick is a two-time Braided River author\, founding Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers\, and a recipient of the Daniel Housberg Wilderness Image Award from the Alaska Conservation Foundation. Her stories from Alaska will be interwoven with voices from Save Our Wild Salmon\, and the Columbia Snake River Campaign to provide local solutions on how to restore salmon runs and the ecosystems they sustain.
