Formed while working in Yo-Yo Ma’s globetrotting ensemble the Silk Road Project, Brooklyn Rider was born out of a desire to use the rich medium of the string quartet as a vehicle for borderless communication. Back for a return TownMusic performance, the group—featuring violinists Johnny Gandelsman and Colin Jacobsen, violist Nicholas Cords, and cellist Eric Jacobson—builds programs that careen from the romantic to the contemporary. With its wildly eclectic voice, Brooklyn Rider is re-creating the 300-year-old form of string quartet as a vital and creative 21st-century ensemble; the group brings its special approach to special approach to Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op.131 by Beethoven, Suite for String Quartet from ‘Bent’ by Philip Glass, Kol Nidre by John Zorn, and a work by Colin Jacobson.
Advance tickets are $20/$17 Town Hall members & seniors, $10 age 25 & under at Brown Paper Tickets or 800/838-3006 beginning September 26.

You might have heard Brooklyn Rider in the nationally-televised 2011 Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Yo-Yo-Ma last week. Here’s the video of the entire live performance. You can see the members of Brooklyn Rider performing starting at the 4:20 mark. People are still talking about their 2010 performance at Town Hall as one of the best in TownMusic history. You won’t want to miss them this time!
