Science: Robert Trivers:
The Truth about Self-Deception

Monday, November 14, 2011, 7:30 – 9:00pm

Downstairs at Town Hall; enter on Seneca Street. $5.

At the core of our mental lives is a striking contradiction: Although our senses have evolved to give us a detailed perception of the world, as soon as that information hits our brains it becomes biased and distorted, usually without conscious effort. But why? Leading evolutionary theorist Robert Trivers, author of The Folly of Fools, argues that in order to deceive others, we must first deceive ourselves—and we are very good at denying the truth, even when it can have devastating effects. Presented as part of Seattle Science Lectures, with Pacific Science Center and University Book Store. Series sponsored by Microsoft. Series media sponsorship provided by KPLU.

Tickets are $5 at Brown Paper Tickets or 800/838-3006, or at the door beginning at 6:30 pm. Town Hall members receive priority seating.
