Majka Burhardt: Ethiopia’s Coffee Story

Monday, September 26, 2011, 7:30 – 9:00pm

Downstairs at Town Hall; enter on Seneca Street. $5.

It’s the 21st century, and Ethiopia, in the global consciousness, is fighting to shed its history of drought, famine, and war by embracing the heritage and potential of its defining crop: coffee, one of the world’s 10 most-valued commodities. Majka Burhardt, author of Coffee Story: Ethiopia, recounts that process in a tale of opportunity, resources, education, and tradition, transcending the bean itself to explore food anthropology, development, adventure, Ethiopia’s landscape and peoples, and the impact of coffee on world politics and global understanding. Presented by The Town Hall Center for Civic Life. Series media sponsorship provided by PubliCola. Series supported by The Boeing Company Charitable Trust and the RealNetworks Foundation.

Tickets are $5 at Brown Paper Tickets or 800/838-3006, and at the door beginning at 6:30 pm. Town Hall members receive priority seating.
