Returning to Town Hall after an explosive May 2011 concert, JACK Quartet (called “viscerally exciting” and “mind-blowingly good”) is dedicated to the commissioning and performance of new works. JACK has racked up quite the impressive résumé, even beyond Town Hall: Its recording of Xenakis’ complete string quartets appeared on at least a dozen major-media “Best Of” lists, and the group followed up its last appearance here with a date at London’s famed Wigmore Hall. Joining violinists Christopher Otto and Ari Streisfeld, violist John Pickford Richards, and cellist Kevin McFarland is TownMusic artistic director and former principal cellist with the Seattle Symphony Joshua Roman. On the program: the world premiere of Quintet, a performance-specific commission by composer Jefferson Friedman; Rodericus’ Angelorum Psalat (arr. Christopher Otto); Witold Lutosławski’s String Quartet; and Exordium by Brian Ferneyhough. Presented by Town Hall as part of the TownMusic series, curated by Joshua Roman. Series supported by The Peach Foundation, The Tagney Jones Family Fund, Horizons Foundation, and TownMusic Aficionados.
Tickets are $20/$17 Town Hall members & seniors/$12 age 25 & under at townhallseattle.org or 888/377-4510. $25/$22/$12 at the door. Late seating is not guaranteed. Great Hall; enter on Eighth Avenue.
