David Brewster—Town Hall’s founding director—recently remarked on the passing of Isaiah Sheffer, founding Artistic Director of Symphony Space in New York City, in an intimate column published on Crosscut.com. (Full disclosure: David left Town Hall to create Crosscut.com.) David and Isaiah shared a special connection over the foundation of Town Hall Seattle; here David shares this touching meeting with typical eloquence and insight and remembers Isaiah’s support and insight:
The Sheffer connection was Town Hall Seattle, which I helped get started in 1999 and ran in its early years. I didn’t really know what I was doing, which is where Isaiah came to my rescue. Town Hall is a huge Seattle success story today, thanks to its fine building, a great location, marvelous staff, and the skill, dedication and vision of my successor, Wier Harman. And thanks to Isaiah Sheffer.
You put it beautifully, David. Please do yourself a favor: Click here, and read the whole tribute at Crosscut.com.
