DESCRIPTION:Recognized for her intense\, commanding performances\, delivered with dazzling virtuosity and technical assurance\, violinist Jennifer Koh is dedicated to performing the violin repertoire of all eras\, from traditional to contemporary\, believing that the past and present form a continuum. In 2009\, Koh debuted Bach and Beyond\, a series of three recitals that explore the history of the solo violin repertoire from Bach’s Six Sonatas and Partitas to modern-day composers. At Town Hall\, Koh performs the second recital in the series\, Bach and Beyond Part II\, which connects Bach’s Sonata No. 1 and Partita No. 1 to Bartók’s Sonata for Solo Violin and Phil Kline’s newly commissioned Partita for Solo Violin\, which premiered at The Royal Conservatory in Toronto in November 2012. Koh made her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at age 11. Since the 1994-95 season\, when she won the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow\, the Concert Artists Guild Competition\, and the Avery Fisher Career Grant\, Koh has performed with leading orchestras and conductors around the world—and with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra in March 2012. Part of the TownMusic series\, presented by Town Hall and curated by Joshua Roman. Series supported by The Peach Foundation\, The Tagney Jones Family Fund\, Horizons Foundation\, and TownMusic Aficionados. Advance tickets are $20/$17 seniors and Town Hall members/$10 age 25 and under\, at townhallseattle.org or 888/377-4510. $25/$22/$10 at the door. Town Hall members receive priority seating.
