‘American Teacher’: Film Screening and Discussion

Monday, December 12, 2011, 6:30 – 9:00pm

Great Hall; enter on 8th Avenue. Free, RSVP required.

A good teacher has the power to change the course of a life—but 46 percent of public school teachers leave the profession within the first five years, and 62 percent must take second jobs. The feature-length documentary American Teacher—directed by Academy Award-winner Vanessa Roth and narrated by Matt Damon—tells the collective story of America’s 3.2 million teachers by following four of them as they reach different milestones in their careers. The award-winning film is part of The Teacher Salary Project, designed to bring awareness to how little we value our best teachers—and the ripple effect this has on our children. A discussion follows the screening, featuring American Teacher producer Ninive Calegari, Colin Horak, an internationally-recognized teacher from Franklin Pierce High School, and Lauren Woodman from Microsoft Corporation. Warren Etheredge, founder of The Warren Report and the host of The High Bar will facilitate the panel discussion after the movie.

Presented by Microsoft Corporation.
